PREPARATION
Using radiation therapy to treat Mycosis Fungoides is a complex process but following these tips can help make the treatment process go smoothly.
HELPFUL TIMELINE
2. READ THROUGH OUR TREATMENT WEBSITE
At the top of our website, you'll find a tab labelled "Treatment." There, we explain the radiation treatment process to give patients an idea of what to expect. The "Treatment" section explains the difference between total skin radiation treatment and spot treatments, and also describes what treatment looks like from beginning to end.
3. PRACTICE
During treatment, patients may be asked to hold still in specific positions for 3-5 minutes at a time. The specific positions patients will need to hold for treatment will be dependent on the type of treatment they are receiving. For spot treatments, positions will vary from patient to patient, depending on the location of their disease. However, patients receiving treatment to their entire body will all be positioned the same, as they are standard positions for most institutions. If patients are receiving Total Skin Electron Irradiation (TSEI), they may find it helpful to practice these positions at home prior to starting their radiation treatment. Being able to hold still in the treatment positions for an extended amount of time will help shorten overall treatment times in clinic.
4. LEARN ABOUT THE TEAM
During treatment, patients may meet many different members of the radiation oncology department. Â Each team member plays an important role in making sure that the patient receives high quality, accurate radiation treatments. Â To learn more about the team members and their roles, visit the "Meet the Team" page of this website.
